A Day in the Life: Sleep Coach, Andrea Hansen

By: Andrea Hansen -Senior Manager, Compliance

My day often starts with the same thought, “I am excited to see who I can help today!” after my usual morning routine, I log on, check emails, and jump into our daily clinical standup.

During this meeting, we discuss important updates and share patient compliance issues as a team. In the world of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), issues can vary greatly from patient to patient so it’s important to make sure we’re all on the same page.  We find solutions together through collaboration.

After the meeting, I am off to manage my own subset of patients. I will start by seeing who reached out to me through my counterpart, our virtual Sleep Coach, Jeanie™. Jeanie™ is available to our patients and DME customers 24/7/365. OSA patients new and old will frequently engage with her.

Since Jeanie™ keeps a record of all interactions with the patient. I’ll read through these messages. I spend a lot of time here; it’s important to be available for all my patients and return their messages promptly.  I keep my eye on this area all day so I’m able to respond quickly to patients who reach out through Jeanie™. I also get to see how Jeanie™ helps patients. Compared to other roles I’ve been in, it’s incredibly helpful to have such a powerful tool assisting our OSA patients. She gives advice, sends helpful and quick videos, and most of the time, that’s all a patient needs to continue on a path towards compliance.

Jeanie™ also alerts me to patients who are at critical touchpoints of their therapy but aren’t doing as well as we hoped they would be.  She tells the patients who are doing well to keep up the great work. When I need to intervene, Jeanie™ briefs me on what that patient is experiencing and asks me to call so I can help the patient directly. I provide them with solutions and give them plenty of encouragement.

In my role, every day is different and a new adventure. However, the one constant I can count on is that I will be helping my patients live happier and healthier lives. This role is perfect for me because I get great satisfaction and fulfillment when I can make someone’s life a little bit better. I am surrounded by Sleep Coaches and Respiratory Therapists on my team who feel the same way. We all work together to manage our patient’s obstructive sleep apnea needs and provide great results for our DME customers.
